Title of the Programme
The programme shall be master of engineering in electrical and electronics engineering MEng. (EEE)
Background
Gain the knowledge and skills you need for a career in electrical and electronic engineering. The course gives you the opportunity to improve your knowledge and keep up with the latest developments in the industry.
You’ll develop your understanding of key aspects of electrical and electronics engineering, and explore how they fit into the context of industrial sectors and rapidly-developing everyday applications. You’ll address the challenges, problems and solutions involved in electrical and electronics engineering in modern industry, including optimal and intelligent electronic system design and development, and engineering operation and management. You’ll study and research new approaches in this field – and apply them to both real-world and research-orientated problems.
This course has been designed for students interested in developing their careers in both theoretical and practical areas of electrical and electronic engineering. It also prepares students wishing to continue their study to doctorial level research. Students successfully completing this course will be able to make an immediate contribution to a company’s performance and operations within the broad spectrum of modern industry.
Justification
This degree programme is ideally suited to graduates of Level 8 BE degrees in Electrical / Electronic Engineering (or equivalent) who want to advance their engineering knowledge towards a career in industry or research based on electrical / electronic applications. The programme consists of 120 ECTS credits divided into three areas: advanced technologies in Electrical & Electronic Engineering ; transferrable skills for employment in industry and/or a research career and technology development through an Electrical & Electronic Engineering project and thesis.
The targeted group includes holders of:
Applicants must have completed a UTS recognized bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies. A high 2:2 or equivalent grade in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or related discipline. Applicants are expected to have covered modules such as Maths, Electric Circuits, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines, Analogue Electronics, Integrated Circuits, Instrumentation, Control Engineering, or related key technical modules. Applicants with other relevant Engineering qualifications should demonstrate clear evidence that they have covered sufficient Electrical and or Electronics based subjects in their undergraduate studies. Please ensure that you include any relevant work experience in your personal statement.
General Objectives
- With your graduate expertise, you’ll be able to secure a career as a Professional Electrical or Electronics Engineer, making a difference in the world of medical technology, communications, transportation systems, mining resource extraction, power generation and distribution, renewable energy systems, electric vehicle or even spacecraft and satellites.
- With your applied experience, you have the opportunity to work with some of Burkinafaso’s biggest companies or venture overseas to work for a global engineering corporation.
Specific Objectives
This course delivers understanding of the art of electrical and electronic engineering and an in-depth study of topics covering modern technology for electrical and electronic engineering. It allows for study of a variety of topics, including
- Electronic design
- Communications
- Software engineering
- Power generation and distribution
- Electrical machines
- Renewable energy systems
Our objective is to help you develop the confidence to work as a professional, at ease with the conventions of the discipline, and ready to tackle any area of research in electrical and electronic engineering.
If you want to become a Professional Electrical and Electronic Engineer and have a 2 year Burkinafaso engineering degree (or recognised equivalent international degree) but no work experience, the USQ’s Master of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) will provide a pathway.
- Throughout the degree there is an emphasis on practical experience with hands-on laboratory sessions and 60 days industry experience, preparing you thoroughly for the engineering profession.
- You will also complete a research project and dissertation applying all your formal knowledge to a real world problem. Whether this is the exploration of signalling devices for road and rail or the most efficient transmission of power, renewable energy or energy storage, your project will provide insight to the profession of an Electrical and Electronic Engineer.
- The research project and dissertation can also be a stepping stone to further higher degrees, such as PhD.
