- Background

Careers in tourism and hospitality are available locally and around the world. Here in Burkina, the tourism and hospitality industry is an exciting, vibrant and rapidly growing sector. Students in our program benefit from small class sizes, flexible learning options, experiential learning, and faculty who have a wide range of research interests and industry experience. Whether you have aspirations of running your own hotel or managing a catering company, the BA (Hons) Tourism and Hospitality Management will equip you with the skills needed to do so successfully. Management knowledge, technical skills and valuable insights into an increasingly complex and dynamic area are the hallmarks of our Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management degree.
You will be prepared with highly developed capabilities and analytical skills that can be applied to a range of careers across the tourism and hospitality industries. The course thoroughly explores the links between food and beverage, hospitality and tourism, while a flexible approach gives you the opportunity to focus on either tourism (an operational or destination focus) or hospitality (an operational management or food and beverage focus).
- Justification
The BA (Hons) Tourism and Hospitality Management programme develops your critical thinking, analytical, communication, intercultural and entrepreneurial skills, all of which are necessary in the domain of tourism, hospitality, food and management. You will also learn how to apply business administration principles including modelling, management and marketing theory and additionally, its related subfields and sectors. Online programs have the same content and curriculum as traditional on-campus programs. All coursework, including lectures, assignments, and exams, is available through the online learning system. http://www.ist-ecampus.online/blended/
- The targeted group includes holders of:
Advanced Level Certificate of Education; Advanced Level Certificate of Sciences
Diplomas in ARTS and other related Management fields;
GCE ‘A’ Level with two passes: or local Polytechnic Diploma; or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma; or NUS High School Diploma. Applicants with a Diploma from recognized institution, or other Diploma qualifications plus an acceptable score may be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis.

The mission of a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management is to prepare students for managerial positions in the dynamic and increasingly global hospitality and tourism industry, as well as for the development of human resources in this field. Graduates are able to enter professional positions in tourism, hospitality, restaurant, and event management fields such as convention and visitors’ centers, destination management organizations, conference centers, resorts, casinos, hotels, theme parks, theaters, restaurants, and clubs. Field work experience permits students to draw the links between theory taught in the classroom and practice observed in the field, thus improving their education and skills.
Specific Objectives
Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management are able to:
- Apply technical and management skills in the hospitality and tourism industry.
- Identify and communicate a long-range vision and strategy for a service organization.
- Plan and monitor the revenue activity of a hotel or facility.
- Participate in financial activities such as the setting of room rates, the establishment of budgets, and the allocation of funds to departments.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply the principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Duration of the Programme: 3 years and one Year for a Diploma student.
Students are required to complete a total of 180 credit units (cu) to graduate with a basic degree.
