Title of the Programme
The programme shall be Bachelor of Engineering in Environmental Engineering and Management B.Eng. (EEM)
- Background
The Environmental Engineering and Management Program looks for solutions to various environmental problems, including wastewater treatment and disposal systems, air pollution, solid and hazardous wastes, waste minimization and life cycle assessment, environmental impact assessment and more.
In response to the regional demand, we offer specialization in,
- Environmental Technology and Management – with a focus on a systems approach to managing the environment, including the interrelated roles of the industry and the government agencies.
- Water and Wastewater Engineering – responds to the need to produce engineers specialised in the planning, design, operation and management of water supply, wastewater treatment and disposal systems. It brings into focus the development of advanced treatment systems.
Developed in collaboration with the industry and the public sector environmental specialists, the program offers an integrated approach towards the current and long term environmental issues, planning and management for the sustainable development of industrial production systems.
- Justification
Environmental Engineering and Management is concerned with the study of clean technologies that have no or as little impact on the environment as possible. An environmental engineer is involved in research and development of alternative energy sources, water reclamation, waste treatment and recycling. Environmental engineering also focuses on protecting public health, thus contributing to a sustainable development. Sub-disciplines of environmental engineering include: geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering.
- The targeted group includes holders of:
-Advanced Level Certificate of Education; Advanced Level Certificate of Science;
-Diplomas in Engineering and other related Science and Technology fields;
-Degrees in the Physical Sciences and other Related .
- General Objectives
This programme aims to provide comprehensive undergraduate education for secondary school graduates for pursuing a professional career in environmental engineering and management. The programme is vocationally oriented and it aims to equip students with the professional knowledge and skills to pursue careers as practising environmental engineers and to assume professional leadership roles to serve the manpower needs of the environmental industry.
- Specific Objectives
It responds to the need to produce engineers specialized in the planning, design, operation, and management of water supply, wastewater treatment and disposal systems. It brings into focus the development of advanced treatment systems. Specialization include water supply and sewerage system engineering, water quality management, water and wastewater treatment systems, environmental sanitation systems, groundwater contamination, waste recycling and resource recovery, natural and ecological treatment systems. To develop manpower that will be able to design, operate and maintain technologies and develop policies thereby promote environmental protection and safeguard human health.
Duration of the Programme: 4 years and one Year for advanced Diploma student
