Title of the Programme
Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering
Medical healthcare continuously develops and the human life expectancy increases. This requires innovative biomedical solutions, which result in better diagnoses, quicker recoveries for illnesses or even preventing them, and better medical interventions. To be able to contribute to solutions, it is necessary to look at the human body through the lens of an engineer. With the bachelor’s program of Biomedical Engineering, you lay a solid foundation for this.As biomedical engineer you improve the medical healthcare with technical solutions. To do so, you optimize the available information, technologies and methods and translate this to a solution that a doctor can use.
Biomedical engineers create materials, devices and processes for better health outcomes.
Biomedical engineering bridges the gap between technology, medicine and biology. It integrates physical, chemical, mathematical and computational sciences and engineering principles with the ultimate aim of improving health care. Biomedical engineers may be involved in the design, construction and development of health and monitoring devices and computers, implantable devices, diagnostic systems and therapeutic systems, cell and tissue engineering, and pharmaceuticals. You may also work with models of physiological function and prosthetics and implants. Depending on your chosen specialisation, you may find employment with hospitals, biotechnology companies, medical equipment manufacturers, research institutes and government health departments. During your study program, you often work on projects in teams, where you translate the technical knowledge you gained into concrete solutions for a societal problem. Sometimes together with students from within your study program and sometimes in multidisciplinary teams with students from different programs. This way, you already know how to make the connection between technology and the world around you before you even start your career. And that is precisely what society needs right now.
